On September 1, the iconic facade of the Philippine International Convention Center was illuminated in red as the Center expressed its solidarity with the worldwide live events industry’s Global Red Campaign, locally led by the National Live Events Coalition Philippines (NLEC-PH).

PICC, along with other Philippine landmarks and establishments such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Fort Santiago and De La Salle University joined the international campaign to raise awareness on the plight of the live events industry and its stakeholders, where thousands have become unemployed and companies struggle for survival because of the pandemic.

NLEC-PH is an alliance of various sectors of the live events industry, such as theater and the performing arts, freelance creative and production workers, social and weddings events, gigs and music festivals, AVL (audio video lights) coverage and staging / fabrication suppliers, agencies and activations, concerts, conventions, trade shows and venues. The Association of Philippine Performing Arts Spaces (APPAS), an association of performing arts spaces in the Philippines which PICC is a member of, is one of the organizations actively involved in NLEC-PH.

The coalition was formed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its critical impact on the industry. It aims to be an advocate for every event practitioner, and to work with the government in creating realistic plans and strategies for safety precautions for its audience and its workforce.

PICC General Manager Renato B. Padilla says, “As one of the country’s biggest venues for live events, PICC shares the sentiments of APPAS and NLEC-PH and we support its advocacy for the industry, starting with our participation in the Global Red Campaign. Slowly but surely, we shall work together to restore audience confidence in attending live events and bring the industry back to life.”
