PICC Launches Solar Photovoltaic Facility

As part of its advocacy to promote environmental protection and awareness, the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) launched its solar photovoltaic system. This facility was built in collaboration with the PNOC Renewables Corporation, as part of its energy efficiency program for government agencies in support of the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.

The Solar PV Rooftop Project is PICC’s first foray into sustainable and renewable energy. Prior to its launch, the Center has actively pursued efforts to minimize its environmental impact, with various initiatives covering energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste management. It is the largest solar PV facility that the PNOC RC has installed as of date, with a capacity to produce 1,200,000 kWh of electricity annually and provide clean solar energy for PICC. Apart from clean energy, this facility could also offset at least 1,000 metric tons of carbon emissions from fossil fuel energy sources.

A closer look at the Solar PV Rooftop facility. A total of 1,050kWp of solar PV were installed in various buildings within the PICC Complex, such as the Reception and Plenary Hall (600kWp), Secretariat Hall (210 kWp), and Delegation Hall (240 kWp).
