Four days before retiring as head of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and chairman of the PICC Board of Directors, Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. participated in the time capsule laying ceremonies for the new Trade Exhibit Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) and the soft launching of the Museo ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. The two projects are located within the PICC Complex.
The ceremonies were attended by BSP Deputy Governors Nestor Espenilla, Jr., Diwa Guinigundo and Cyd Tuaño-Amador; BSP Monetary Board members Valentin Araneta, Juan De Zuñiga and Armando Suratos; PICC Board members Pacita Rosalinda Aguirre, Raquel Garcia, Cristina Sarino, Susan Villar and Gabriel Lim Cruz; and executives and officers of the BSP and the PICC.
The Trade Exhibit Hall, a 5,700 sqm hall for trade fairs and exhibitions, will be replacing the existing PICC Forum. It shall still be of multi-purpose use to accommodate not only medium-sized exhibitions and trade fairs but meetings and special events as well, making the PICC a complete MICE destination. Construction is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2018.
The Museo ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, a new structure currently being built inside the complex, will house BSP’s extensive contemporary art collection. It is envisioned to enrich the local arts and culture scene by exposing the BSP cultural properties and art collection to the students on tour, convention and meeting delegates and the tourists and the public in general.
The addition of the two buildings symbolizes the regeneration of the 40-year old convention center.
