PICC CELEBRATES THE 2019 NATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH
The Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) showed its support to the worldwide celebration of the Women’s Month in March spearheaded by Atty. Renato B. Padilla, General Manager, who announced this year’s theme “We Make Change Work for Women” during the flag ceremony last March 4, 2019. He then encouraged all PICC employees to actively participate in the set of activities prescribed by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) during the National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC).
PURPLE POWER
During Fridays of March, PICC employees wore purple dresses or accessories to show support in the advancement of women’s rights and gender equality, break gender stereotypes and stop gender-based violence and discrimination against women. According to the women’s group who labored for the celebration of International Women’s Day, purple is the color symbolizing women. It is also associated with royalty, magic, mystery and piety. This year’s Purple Fridays succeeded the Purple Thursdays which was first introduced last year by PCW.
PICC has been a regular venue of PCW activities for the past years, and the newest addition to the list is the conduct of the 2019 National Women’s Month Conference last March 8, 2019. The event was attended by various government agencies, including PICC’s representative, Atty. Melan M. Espela, Asst. Dir. of HRMDD and Vice Chairperson of the GFPS-TWG. It was truly a momentous event as PCW recognized seven (7) GAD programs and mechanisms of different Local Government Units (LGUs) for their efforts to provide accessible and gender-responsive services and facilities. It also served as a platform to launch the enhanced Gender-Responsive Local Government Unit (GeRL) Assessment tool, Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Plan 2019-2025 and the Compendium of Indicators of Monitoring an Evaluation of GEWE in the country. A live stream of the event was also shared in PICC’s Facebook account to provide the public online access and participation to the said event.
As a way to invite the public to support the observance of NWMC, PICC displayed two (2) banners of the official NWMC streamer located along Vicente Sotto Street and Leona Florentino Street leading to the Secretariat Building. Likewise, PICC announced its participation to the celebration on its website and social media accounts to inform visiting clients about the NWMC.
